We use 12 Volts DC for our lighting and ventilation systems. A continuous and silent supply of fresh air is vital for ventilation in a vocal booth. Old fashioned ventilation fans used to run fast and tend to be noisy, but now we have low speed fans specially designed to minimise acoustic noise while ensuring more than adequate fresh air and using less than half a watt of power! Likewise the lighting is precise, with good colour values and simple safe adjustment.
To ensure reliable air supply, we install a small sealed industrial power supply in the Window Module. This provides regulated 12 V DC for the low voltage LED lighting and ventilation system built in to the ceiling module.
Our designs take into account your safety and protection. The mains outlets in the Window Module protects the user against shock with the Clipsal Combination Residual Current Device and Miniature Circuit Breaker (RCD).
The RCD immediately detects any problems with mains equipment and isolates the booth ensuring your safety.
The RCD disconnects the supply within a few milliseconds. The integrated low voltage power supply unit (PSU) is protected from short circuits, One PSU is sufficient to run 4 Led spotlights and four fans.
Ceiling Fans
The fans operate at 700 rpm and have a 150,00 hour mean time between failure rate. This means, if you work 12 hours a day, 300 days a year (and who doesn’t like an occasional day off? ) they will last on average, – – – – 41 years.
Each fan uses just 0.48 watts and this means they are very efficient. Their noise level is better than 7 db. So if you need to sleep during a session – no problem! They are mounted on heavy bases with shock absorbers in order to further reduce transmitted noise.
At the top of the window module there is a connection to the ceiling module. We make connections without the need for special tools using low voltage red automotive bullet connectors.
Spare connectors are readily available from auto electrician supplies, in case you accidentally try to dismantle the booth in a hurry without unplugging the wiring first! (not recommended)
Standard Lighting
Lighting comprises two or more Par 16 cans mounted beneath the ceiling. These are fitted with 7 Watt Philips LED daylight lamps or similar. 25,000 – 50,000 hours use. That is a LIFETIME of sessions.
Advantages of LEDs
- very efficient and long lasting
- generate much less heat than Halogen Lamps
- have negligible UV output leading to longer session times and less UV hazard
- run cool and may safely be adjusted or handled while switched on
- flicker free with good color values
Air Supply/Ventilation
Small 12 volt fans mounted on special isolating damped frames provide built in air supply through selected ceiling modules.
We do not build air-conditioning into booths because it is impossible to completely silence an AC unit within a booth.
We recommend instead placing the ventilation inlet near an existing building outlet. Since the inlets are in the ceiling, if the building has good clean air outlets on the existing ceiling of the containing room, nothing else needs to be done.
