Do you really need a Floor Module? Read on…
We can place the booth directly on carpet/underlay as long as the existing floor does not noticeably resonate and is flat to within 2 mm. Modern concrete poured floors, or well laid hardwood are usually flat enough. Quality woollen carpet and underlay complete the acoustic seal.. In older buildings a Floor Module is often very useful, as old floors often warp so much the bottom of the booth cannot seal. Similarly, in a theatre the ability to quickly move a booth on wheels is a huge advantage and allows the booth to be used in many different ways and re-located without too much effort.
Floating Floor
Floors with major irregularities, over 1 cm across the booth footprint require further treatment to enable the accurate wall modules to acoustically seal at the bottom.
First we install a matrix of accurately cut pads with Embelton Vibration Mounts attached to the top surface on the existing floor, using a laser level. Onto this base we lay Yellow-tongue floor panels which are tongue and grooved to create a very flat and level floating floor.
Carpet
We recommend choosing a durable Carpet with a good quality underlay. It creates a long-lasting and quiet floor covering. We strongly advise using a wool blend to minimize static pick-up in microphones. You may also consider choosing darker colors which further increase longevity in a commercial environment
Optional Floor Module
We provide a optional welded steel floor module making moving easy for theater or broadcast installations.
This floor module is fabricated from RHS steel with a plywood platform which is leveled using adjustable screw jacks or supported by industrial castors. Surround strip is KD Hardwood for durability.(see photo with castors below )
Adjustable locking jacks
Locking jacks allow for leveling on an uneven floor, and therefore increase isolation. The user steps up into the raised booth. Typical installed Height is 100 – 150mm
Heavy duty locking castors
Moving a booth around is easy if it is installed on a wheeled floor module with heavy duty castors. This arrangement best suits a large flat area, for example a stage or commercial office space. Booths up to 1.5 x 1.5 M are easily movable with two people on a good floor. Height 125mm. See photo above.
Floor Module Use
A floating floor on castors is a good solution for offices, schools or regional theaters to allow more sophisticated and flexible productions. A floating floor can for example provide an isolated space for a quiet commentary or voice over during a noisy stage scene.
