Harry Williamson and Friends

Life in the world unseen CD cover by Harry Williamson and Friends

Harry released his first ‘solo’ album in 2000 as Harry Williamson and Friends. A collection of diverse original tunes drawn from collaborations over many years with musicians he has had the pleasure to work with. Often these pieces are drawn from other projects or orphaned compositions seeking company.

Harry Williamson and Friends

Entitled ‘Life in the World Unseen‘ this CD draws its inspiration comes from a book of almost the same name describing the spirit world. In his unusual book Anthony Borgia describes the customs and manners of the other world in breathtaking detail. He explores the world from the point of view of an unbeliever, who dies and finds himself in the company of fellow souls. Each continues their path through existence, but with different, very different physical rules in a world of ever increasing light. The music of this world represents the greatest inspiration of the composers we know so well. In the new world they have the additional opportunity to finish and polish incomplete works of art, in any medium.

Although this work might seem fanciful and bizarre in today’s AI obsessed world, its worth remembering that these concepts were once widely explored. A personal hero – Robin Williams – made a 1998 film inspired by this book, called ‘What Dreams may Come‘ which is still worth watching.

Buildings are composed of music in the realm of pure imagination, and consequently are in a state of flux. You might like to read it and then you would understand!

The group ‘Harry Williamson and Friends’ refers to the large number of guests on the album. He recorded it over several years and it features performances from a wide variety of collaborators.

Life in the World Unseen excerpt

Second life as producer-engineer

‘Being both a musician and producer can pose problems. I have to remember which hat to wear at any given moment, but it also brings much joy. Whichever role we take, lets make the best of it.’

In his life as a producer-engineer, Harry has often contributed ideas or played some parts in a project. Moments later he has to record, edit or refine it, as engineer. Keep an eye on the hats..
